They say you need as many days as time zones jumped to feel normal again after traveling…. I don’t know if that’s true but even after 4 years of living in the Middle East, I’m still not used to the shift 😂. I’ve been settling in, seeing friends and family, catching a cold in the wintry Asbury wind (seriously, what is this weather??), and getting ready to drive upstate for my best friends wedding this weekend! Excited be home, and more importantly, I’m excited to share some Ashtanga with the community in NJ in a couple of weeks. This state is so blessed with endless yoga studios and events going on, but I definitely notice the lack of traditional yoga when I am back here. I can be quite critical when it comes to western-style “yoga” but I am honestly happy to see the practice growing in any way it can. Crazy news over the last two days with two American, NYC-based cultural icons taking their own lives I’ve heard people remark they can’t believe that these two successful people would do such a thing Why, they wonder, when they had everything and had it ALL would they do that? The brand, the good looks, the wealth, the fame… That ridiculous list that western society equates to success . . . But “success”, however you define it, is not a linear path — or a check list It’s all about finding your own individual balance within Maslow’s hierarchy of needs And I am learning from @premayogainstitute that ayurveda is pretty much balancing all your things to make you, well, the best you But I also know what it’s like to feel out of balance, like you’re spinning out of control …and feeling super alone and blue in the process of trying to ground yourself and reconnect — trust, I have to check myself like anyone else. It’s usually achieved by giving ourselves back TIME to find joy, to smile The most busy, brilliant, successful people, including politicians and business people, are also those people who say NO the most They know their time is valued And although there are so many variables that allow people to have free time to destress, like financial freedom or certain kind of relationships, mental freedom is always still free It isn’t easy to find it when you’re running around in a city with a bunch of competitive assholes with no time to rest and reset That puts anyone over the edge Particularly creative geniuses like Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain—everyone wanted their time But you can manage your time to find joy in the small moments throughout the day, it definitely helps And in those days when you can’t find small moments of joy, know you are not alone Kindness and generosity will show up somewhere during that day if you allow it Thinking of those today and always looking for their inner light and peace… ✌🏻 DM me if you ever are struggling or know someone who is and want to talk about this 💫
