10 Quotes to Inspire Your 4th of July Yoga Flow

How do you plan to celebrate the 4th of July this year?

Vegan BBQs are great (and vegan ice cream from Cookman Creamery in Asbury Park is even better!), but focusing on how the concept of independence can infuse new life into our practice is how we intend the ignite the light this year.

Here are 10 quotes that will undoubtedly inspire you to throw your hair in a bun, get into downward facing dog, and life your best life.

For our yoga teachers – how are you opening your classes this week? And what’s on your FREEDOM PLAYLIST?! We want to create something special before Wednesday, so let us know!

May today there be peace within. May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith in yourself and others. May you use the gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you. May you be content with yourself just the way you are. Let this knowledge settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of us.

Saint Terese of Liseaux

What then is freedom? The power to live as one wishes.

Marcus Tullius Cicero

I am no bird; and no net ensnares me; I am a free human being with an independent will.

Charlotte Bronte

The true miracle lies in our eagerness to allow, appreciate, and honor the uniqueness, and freedom of each sentient being to sing the song of their heart.

Amit Ray

The truth will set you free, but first it will piss you off.

Gloria Steinem

You wanna fly, you got to give up the shit that weighs you down.

Toni Morrison

Freedom is the basic condition for you to touch life, to touch the blue sky, the trees, the birds, the tea and the other person.

Thich Nhat Hanh

We are familiar with moments of freedom, but we also know how it feels to be stuck, caught, as though there are obstacles in our way. We feel imprisoned by limitations. Limitations sometimes manifest on a physical level – inflexibility appears in our body or a rigidity of the mind – we keep bumping into ourselves and other people and things. Nothing seems to work. It feels as if the sky has collapsed and clouds are hanging around us, and our limitless potential seems far away.

The goal of yoga is liberation from all limitations. So how do we overcome limitations? Look what happens when you do Hatha Yoga: a stiff and inflexible body will stretch, release and relax. In the same way, if you use the other tools of yoga you will stretch your mind and bring your essential self into the Light.

from Living the Practice by Swami Radhananda

Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

Freedom is knowledge, peace, and bliss. Consciously or unconsciously, wittingly or unwittingly, all are attempting for this freedom. In every heart, there is desire for freedom, this all-consuming passion for liberty.

Swami Sivananda
