Health is no longer simple.
Dr. Nicole, Integrative Wellness Group
Nothing in life is “one size fits all.” Not shoes, not shirts, not leggings, not houses, not cars, not drinks, not meals, and definitely not prescriptions for living your best and healthiest life ever.
And what does a “best” and “healthier” life look like? Every person has their own definition and idea for how they want to feel, move, breathe, wake up, go to sleep, play, work, and engage in everything our world has to offer.
So it only makes sense that there needs to be a new benchmark for wellness. An approach that provides human beings with a state of the art program and plan, melding innovation and intuitive intelligence to achieve optimal mind-body health.
Integrative Wellness Group, based out of Belmar, NJ, is working incredibly hard every single day to provide solutions for getting well and staying well. Many of their clients come through the door with pain, old injuries, trouble with allergies, hormonal issues, difficult digestion, chronic exhaustion, prenatal and pregnancy concerns, anxiety, energetic disconnects, a deeply troubling diagnosis, or a full on medical mystery.
The IWG team, led by Dr. Nicole Rivera and Dr. Nick Carruthers, invite each of these individuals into their beautiful space with open arms. The aspire to uncover symptoms, offer a progressive approach to evolve the way healthcare is being done, and provide a specific, scientific, and one of a kind approach to each and every one of their patients.
Yes, we know that’s BIG stuff.
So let us back up a little bit.
The wonderfully warm, wise, and welcoming IWG team invited us to spend a day learning about how they customer treatment options to integrate physical medicine, functional medicine, energetic work, and detoxification to transform lives. IWG planned a full afternoon in their detox spa for us, including Infrared Sauna, Herbal Wellness Steams, Ion Cleanse Foot Baths, Cold Laser Treatment, and Cupping to help us detox in a safe, effective, and relaxing way.
We came as a believer (Bridget) and a skeptic (Amie), with a naysayer in tow (Amie’s husband Tim). We learned (well, Tim definitely learned…) that hot yoga and daily green smoothies aren’t enough to fully release toxins; preventative treatments are imperative for cleansing, healthy cell growth, burning off infections, targeting inflammation, supporting gastrointestinal health, and keeping our lady parts happy and healthy.
And our verdict on the day? Amazing. Incredible. A must. We all walked out agreeing that EVERYONE should immerse themselves in at least one day of getting to know their bodies better and addressing their concerns, from vein issues and pesky cellulite to finding out where parasites might just be lurking (a cat parasite could be in your gallbladder. Seriously. We know from experience!).
Now we know you want to know more, and you probably want to hear it from someone entirely more knowledgable than three first-timers. So here is our interview with Liz Brooks, the IWG Detox Spa manager!

What led you to create a detox spa as a part of the IWG experience?
Before creating the Detox Spa, we saw many patients having a difficult time getting through their initial detoxing phase with supplements and food changes alone. The Detox Spa was created to help expedite that process to help relieve some of those unpleasant detox symptoms. Once the Detox Spa started, we had many patients that were able to stick with their program and get through the detox phase successfully and continue on their healing journey.. This support has enabled patients to feel better, sooner!
How does to the detox spa work with everything else you offer?
The Detox Spa at IWG was built to give extra support to our patients with their programs and health goals. The Detox Spa works in tandem with all of our services we offer here at IWG. It’s not only a great way to detox for our Functional Medicine patients, the sauna, for example, is the perfect modality to warm up the muscles and keep inflammation at bay for chiropractic adjustments.

Tell us more about the “v-steam” – who needs to try it and WHY?
The v-steam, also known as the Yoni Steam or Herbal Wellness Steam, is a alternative way for women (and men) to detox the reproductive system. Our doctors will custom make a herbal blend depending on your health goals; such as issues with premenstrual cramps, cysts, endometriosis, infertility, PCOS and yeast infections.. This modality can also help relieve any inflammation in the digestive and urinary tract as well as issues such as hemorrhoids.

Who normally comes in for cupping and how often can you have it done?
Cupping is a great detox method for everyone. If anyone is feeling any pain or tension, this is a great technique to help extract any unwanted toxins from those areas. Also, if someone just wants to try it out to better their health, at IWG, an associate will consult with the patient if they have any areas of tension. Cupping can be done virtually anywhere on the body! Common places to cup are the upper back area (where most people hold tension sitting at a computer all day), mid-back to support kidney and adrenal function, and low back for lower back pain and ease of menstrual cramps for women.

How often can you use the sauna?
The Infrared Sauna is safe to use every day. Make sure to stay hydrated before, during and afterwards. The Infrared Sauna is a therapeutic way to heat the body’s core temperature which aids in detoxifying the body,, lose weight, and lose cellulite and also helps with relieving stress physically and mentally.

How often do clients come in for the Ion Detox Foot Bath?
The Ion Detox Foot Bath is a method of detoxification from pesticides, insecticides, solvents, chemicals, and heavy metals such as aluminum, mercury, arsenic, cadmium, and barium. The bath holds a charge that pulls toxins from the tissues and releases through the feet creating an immediate change in the toxin density of the water. Since we are always exposed to different toxins from our external environments and what we put in to our bodies, the Foot Baths are OK to do for the rest of your life. Frequency does depend on what is going on, but we do recommend starting out with 3 Foot Baths in a row, then after that you can keep up with 1 to 2x a week.

If you’re in the health and wellness world, you’re always trying something new, right? What are you experimenting with these days in terms of detox?
The exciting part of alternative medicine is that there are new facets and research as more people grow aware of different approaches. With this being said, Dr. Nick and Dr. Nicole, the visionaries of Integrative Wellness Group are consistently going to seminars and furthering their education.
