Where to Take Your Asana This Week in NJ

The week ahead is filled with SO many amazing things, but we are also BEGGING you to save the date for a few events that are absolute cannot miss experiences.

For yoga teachers looking to give their students something fresh, new, interesting, and engaging, check out Loren Russo & Katie Ribsam’s weekend-long workshop at Honor Yoga North Brunswick on March 23rd and 24th. Here is the plan:

Day 1, Part 1: Advanced transitions and assists: you’ll test your skills and draw into a deeper sense of connection with apana (upward energy). This in-depth workshop will begin with a thorough warm-up, followed by the opportunity to review skills and ensure a solid understanding of forming the shape of the core for upward energy flow. Then, we’ll assess our balance, strength, and floating through vinyasa awareness. Skills learned in this workshop will be applied to Day 2 sequencing.
Day 1 Part 2: Advanced hands-on assisting to deeply awaken dormant energy: this hands-on workshop will help teachers improve essential skills for safe, effective and transformative hands-on yoga assists. Teachers of all yoga styles will discover common mis-alignments for popular poses and sequences as well as how to read the body and assist for optimal alignment, mechanics, energy flow and safety.

Day 2: Advanced Sequencing with expert trainer Katie Ribsam: build a powerful and creative flow that skillfully prepares your students to enter into advanced postures with confidence and ease. Learn the art of peak pose sequencing and how to create an advanced class that is accessible to the many levels of students included those who desire a challenging experience. Create sequencing with the right balance of effort and ease so your student’s leave both challenged and accomplished.

For teachers AND students seeking to take flight in a way that makes you feel superhero-powerful, be at Honor bright and early on March 24th (and then just stay for the sequencing workshop, right?!) for Flight School with Raghunath.

Raghunath is an ex-rocker, singer, songwriter, ex-monk, inversion ambassador, and spiritual guide. In this workshop you will literally elevate your physical & spiritual practice, let your own dynamic signature practice take shape, and push your edge and realize your potential, no matter what level you’re at.

Experience Raghunath’s bold approach to encountering sophisticated vinyasa: asanas that once seemed unattainable like arm balancing and inverting will be dissected and made approachable. In authentic Raghunath style, class will be interlaced with chanting and stories from classic Indian texts, rooted in down to earth spirituality, and instructions for living a a contemporary yogic lifestyle. change your mind, strengthen your practice, and open your heart, Flight School is in session.

Inside Two River: Free Yoga Classes in partnership with Red Bank Family YMCA
March 12th – FREE event at Two River Theater in Red Bank
In our current world premiere production, Theo, the self-titled character often meditates and practices yoga and mindfulness. With this, we invite you to relax and unwind at a free yoga class in our lobby taught by Scott Bailey of the Red Bank Family YMCA. The class will be taught in a way where movements can be progressed or regressed to allow for all skill levels to benefit fully from the instruction.

Spring Into Yin
March 13th at Trinity Wellness Emporium in Union Beach
“Yin like a lion, and out like a lamb”. Soften, nourish and embrace stillness. Connect to your breath and body in this meditative practice with longer held floor postures to open the connective tissues, joints, and fascia.

Wine Down Wednesday with Metta Made

March 13th at Avenue Le Club Long Branch

Join Metta Yoga in collaboration with Jodi Kobrin of Fly + Release Yoga. Your ticket includes: one-hour all-levels vinyasa yoga class, Metta Meditation, one glass of wine.  After yoga, grab your glass of wine and sit in on a brief info session about Jen + Jodi’s upcoming Wine + Yoga Retreat in upstate New York at the Fingerlake Wineries.


Bends & Beauty: A Make & Take Workshop

March 15th at Bendy Jane Yoga Stafford Township

Come get your zen on and unwind after a long week. We will begin with a 75 minute signature Bendy Jane class taught by both Bridget and Justine. Gentle stretches to begin, working up to a moderate flow and then a juicy, peaceful savasana. Once we roll up our mats we’ll have some light snacks as we create our own rollerball blend using doTERRA essential oils and mini makeovers offered by Bridget (who is also a freelance makeup artist!) and Donna from Makeup Artistry By Donna Dora, using amazing makeup and skincare products.


Candlight Yoga + CBD

March 15th at YPK in Howell

Join Jeanette Sealy, Yoga Therapist and Thai Massage Practitiioner, for a deep dive into deep relaxation and nourishment. Restorative Yoga is a beautiful balm for the nervous system, it allows your body and mind to relax to a whole new level. Combined with Thai assists, Aroma-Acupoint Therapy and CBD Oil tasting, this evening will be sure to provide you with a full reset.


Flow Into Stillness – A Practice to Relax into Yoga Nidra with Christine Dates

March 15th at Elevate Yoga Hazlet

Treat yourself to an evening of self care as Christine Dates guides a slow, gentle flow into stillness. The practice will begin with Pranayama (breath work) to clear the mind, settle the body, and encourage prana (life force) to flow unimpeded within. Breath awareness will help move into a slow, grounding asana practice to release pent up energy and stress. Movement will gently cease, relaxing in a restorative posture before letting go completely into guided Yoga Nidra – or yoga sleep – where a blissful state of consciousness somewhere between waking and sleeping is experienced. This workshop is an experiential practice and open to all levels of experience.


Spring Equinox: 108 Sun Salutations, led by Leigh

March 16that Brassy Buddha Yoga Westfield

Proceeds go to Walk In Sunshine. Celebration of the Spring Equinox!  Practiced the traditional way, as the sun rises. Students are guided through 108 Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar A), by breaking it down into 4 sets of 27 with yin asana between each set to provide ease among the pressure.  Take this practice at your own pace, we are here only to guide and provide a sacred space for you to bring in the season on your own breath.


Spring Equinox with Karena Virginia

March 16th at Monmouth Beach Yoga & Wellness

Join Karena Virginia for a Kundalini Yoga and Miracles Meditation workshop aligning with the radiance and blossoming potential of the Spring Equinox!Together we will align our deepest wishes with the vibratory frequency of the equinox, and we will invite the divine intelligence of the universe to guide us as we take our first steps with ease. Learning Spanish through Yoga (Grades 1-4)

March 16th at Pure Toms River Yoga

Practicing yoga in Spanish is a wonderful way for kids to learn language! Yoga provides a safe environment for making mistakes and taking risks. Through Reading and Kids doing the poses they are acting out the verbs. Associating the words with the movement helps kids to internalize the language. Spanish yoga for kids is active language learning!

Family Yoga with Robin Schumer

March 17th at Honor Yoga North Brunswick

What a great way to experience yoga as a family and spend time together! Spend time bonding while doing something healthy and fun. Music, games, and partner poses are the focus, followed by the grand finale of scented foot massage and yoga nidra.


Unlock Your Body: Strength and Flexibility Workshop

March 17th at Bask Hot Yoga Brick

Flexibility is not a prerequisite of yoga; physical flexibility is a result of a yoga practice, but it should not be the destination. It is much more than that.

This workshop is designed to teach you how to open up your body through yin and yang-style stretching, dynamic flow, static strength holds and core work that you incorporate in your personal practice. We will work on specific movements to deeply stretch the body, develop the ability to go deeper into basic asanas and release tensions from the body all to eventually facilitate our transitions into more advanced poses, arm balancing and inversions.


Body Bliss with Therapy Balls w/ Allison Kane

March 17th at Inlet Yoga Manasquan

This 2-hour workshop will combine self-massage techniques and breath work to help you reduce pain, prevent injuries and improve whatever form of movement you most enjoy. You will learn about your anatomy and how to use Therapy Balls to help release muscle tension and tight fascia; increasing overall body awareness and decreasing body blind spots.


Sound Healing & Restorative Yoga with Tracy Hart

March 17th at Aquarian Yoga Center Clark

In this two hour workshop, Tracy Hart will guide you into gentle stretches, breathing exercises, and restorative yoga poses that work along with the sound of the crystal singing bowls to soothe your body and mind. Sound healing can balance and cleanse the chakras, relieve stress, and bring the body into a state of deep relaxation.

Tracy will take you through a guided meditation where you will learn to use your breath, visualization techniques, mantras, and affirmations to reach the highest potential of each of your energy centers so that you can manifest your positive intentions. Then just lay back and enjoy a long savasana as she plays the crystal singing bowls. Want even more help bringing your intentions into your life? Tracy will play the healing Himalayan singing bowl directly on your heart center to allow these intentions to vibrate even higher.


NJ YogaMay Louie first took yoga in college to fulfill a Phys-Ed requirement and immediately fell in love. She, unfortunately, did not continue with her practice but reconnected with it when she retired from her corporate job in 2002 and has since become a serious yoga enthusiast. After her second retirement last year, she completed her 200-hour RYT certification, studying with Dina Crosta, Ellen Mosko, and Jamie Segal Hanley, with a focus on alignment based flow.
