Mt. Prospect Partnership continues its free Yoga program on Saturdays and Thursdays at Common Thread Park in Newark.
Studies have shown that the benefits of practicing Yoga regularly include a decrease in cortisol levels (stress hormone), an increase in HRV (heart rate variability), relaxation of chronic muscle tension, and improvement in memory, cognitive function, motor skills, and visual perception.
Each session is lead by Debra Cerruti, an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (ERYT), who trained at Starseed Yoga and Wellness, studied Partner Yoga for Couples and Yoga for Arthritis at Kripalu, Chair Yoga at the Open Center, and received her MFA in from CUA. Cerruti’s teaching style is careful, clear, and encouraging. Her instruction of classic asanas and exercises with proper support emphasizes physical alignment and the breath as key to opening and releasing. She often uses poetry to help focus and inspire.

“The goal is to enliven the park and bring the community together doing something healthy, inspiring and fun. Our Common Thread Pop-Up Yoga is a healthy reason to meet and make new friends. My personal goal is always to make yoga engaging and accessible to absolutely everyone,” said Debra Cerruti.
The program is free and all experience levels are welcome—beginners are encouraged to attend. A limited number of yoga mats will be available. Email Debra Cerruti at [email protected] to sign up.
