Dear You,
I wanted to write to let you know that even late bloomers blossom, that things on this side of tomorrow are pretty stellar, and that you remain awesome as always.
I want you to know that you are okay…. better than okay… that you are thriving.
Please take care of your body. As you grow you might find moments when you resent it for what you think it can’t do, for perceived imperfections, for the asymmetries, for its short comings (we never do get taller… just so you know.) But I want you to eat well, sleep well, relax, and find moments to move every day.
Take care of your mind. Feed your heart joyful moments and your mind clear and positive thoughts. Take time to take a breath, take time to pause. Learn ways to live life in the present. It’s the skill you won’t regret giving yourself.
Take care of your heart.
Find your people. Not the people you wish were your people, but those who have in their eyes the very same starry glow of joy, creativity, and compassion that you have. If you’re fooled by one, run. Don’t feel foolish. Leave the ring and take the adventure. You are worth far more than that for which fear would have you settle. When you find them, you’ll know, and you’ll want to be near them, like the warm sun on a beach day. You’ll know, and they’ll know, and you’ll not ever feel lonely even when you’re alone.
Take care of your passion, your light. I know you’ll put down your dream in a second to please others, including those you love. Please don’t. I know you’ll choose noise over silence if it means that others will be more comfortable. Please don’t. You’ll find that you possess the sheer bravery needed to choose yourself over the comfort or perceptions of others. Even kind people do this. Even empathic people do this. It is a brave thing to follow your joy and it is even braver to pursue that joy after a time of struggle. Your quiet, your words, your elation, your body, your power lie in your decision to come back to yourself each time and to love the home you’ve made within.
The most amazing thing is that, as I write this letter to you, I find that you’ve taught me far more than I can ever enclose here. So, I hope this letter finds you nestled in the base of the tree out front of the yellow house or wrapped in waves down the shore, or rolling down the hills at your aunt’s upstate, or even just at home, on the floor with your CDs, your flashlight, and your notebook…because that is how I remember you, that is the light I’ll never let go of, not ever. You are the stellar light in me that guides me home when I need it, and I’m so very grateful for that.
Thank you,
Nicole
