Serious question: is yoga supposed to be fun?
Jennifer Hansen definitely thinks so. In fact, she built an entire pop-up yoga event company to celebrate her intention to spread more good in the world…
And have a hella-good time doing it!
We sat down with Jennifer to learn more about her company, METTAMADE.

First and foremost, what does your company’s name mean?
The word “metta” is a palli word meaning a sincere wish for the welfare & genuine happiness of all beings. For me, it means love, friendliness, and kindness – something you feel within your heart, and something meant to be shared.
How do you incorporate that concept into your events?
Every pop-up yoga event that I host begins with a metta meditation. I do that to bring awareness into the space; to encourage students right from the first moment to spread loving kindness to each other throughout the time we spend together.
Actually, let me back up. Tell me about the whole concept.
METTAMADE hosts yoga events all over New Jersey.
My classes are accessible for all levels and they are really fun; I think of each practice as a way to bring people together for a social experience centered on goodness, kindness, and care for all.
METTAMADE isn’t a studio; I host my events in unique spaces that change how students generally believe a yoga class has to look. My goal is, first and foremost, to always bring community together. And I want to give people a reason to stay after the class! That was a big part of my dream. I didn’t want my students and clients to feel like they had to roll up a mat and run out after my classes. Instead, we get to know each other over a glass of wine, a beer, mimosa, or a communal brunch!

You also incorporate vendors and local artisans?
Yes! I’ve recently started working with a carefully curated collection of vendors who offer amazing items that compliment the vibe of our events. It has added another dimension of socializing, which I love. Plus students learn more about the practice because so many of the companies and brands I connect with are experts in items that compliment our yogic lifestyles, like gemstones, malas, leggings and essential oils.
We love it. And we can’t wait to host one with you!
Same! New Years Eve is coming soon…
