“Power without love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic. Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love.”
~ Dr. Martin Luther King Jr

Sonia Roberts is an educator, writer and yoga teacher, creator and owner of Awakened Love Warrior and the author of White Ally, a Guide to Cultivating a Deeply Spiritual AntiRacism Practice. The workshop will provide you with a foundation for the deepened awareness that is a pre-requisite for moving into compassionate action. We will examine biases, conditioning, values and beliefs by exploring the Yamas and Niyamas, practicing meditations, mindfulness and writing reflections.
Awakened Love Warrior is a movement with the goal of awakening the world and promoting compassionate action to end all forms of oppression. A deepened yoga practice urges you to create a world where people of all races, religions, socioeconomic classes, sexual orientations, gender identities and abilities are seen as human beings and treated equally.
ALW’s mission is to embrace, celebrate and elevate our differences.
“Being an ally means being willing to act with and for others in pursuit of ending oppression and creating equality. Compassion is not enough, you must take action.” ~ Sonia Roberts
This workshop will provide the foundation of working toward justice for all. One of the first steps in this work is self-study, Svadhyaya, beginning to examine our relative position of power and privilege then determine how to use that position to create positive change. Sonia Roberts will create the structure and hold a safe, compassionate space that supports this inner work. Cultivating deep self-awareness will shift us from intention to impact.
As Yoga practitioners, we know that the point of discomfort is the seed of growth.
We can use the skill cultivated on the Yoga mat and apply it to social justice work. We can take our Yoga practice into the world; Yoga teachings state that the point of sadhana is to cultivate our inner light so that we can extend it out into the world. This is Yoga. Let us be the change the wish we to see. Let us serve each other and move toward collective evolution of the highest good. Now is the time, more than ever, for all of us to step out, speak up and move toward a culture of unity and equality.
Discussion will include the Yamas and Niyamas, so this workshop is perfect for teachers and practitioners, but it is open to anyone interested in spiritual activism and social justice.
