Do you feel like you should be heading back to school this week?
Us too – and that vibe has us REALLY excited for the events, immersions, workshops, and trainings happening all over NJ this week. From yoga with goats to Kirtan, we know there is something for anyone and everyone seeking to learn in a “yogi uniform” – aka tank tops, leggings, and NO SHOES.
We’d also love to see your name on the list of official attendees for the 2019 Global Mala, our 10th Annual Celebration of the Sacred Cycle of 108.
108 Sun Salutations + 100s of NJ yogis + almost 20 teachers who are ready to share their practice + incredible studios pitching in to support the event (thank you Karma Barre, POE, Evenflow, and Inlet for signing on as studio partners for the Mala!) + the Asbury Park Yacht Club showing the love and letting us handle registration in their space AND hang afterward with some apps, libations, and yogi convo.
Here’s where you’ll find us this week…
Saturday at Elevate Yoga in Hazlet
Join Stephanie Barrios-Cullins, MPA, RYT-500 for meditation and a larger conversation focused on what these topics mean to us in the yoga community, among healers, and in our society in modern day America. This workshop is open to all – yoga teachers, helping professionals, healers, and students.
You’ll also have the chance to connect with Stephanie at VibeWell on October 27; she is a part of our panel discussion on Yoga and Inclusivity NOW, alongside Phyllicia, Lockey, and Alisha.
Here are the details for our VibeWell panel:
We invite you to join us for a groundbreaking conversation about inclusivity and diversity in the yoga and wellness industries: where we are, who we are, where we’ve come from, and what we can do to open lines of communication and stand in solidarity with communities whose voices are inadequately heard and represented.
“Yoga is a microcosm of what’s happening in the world,” says Grace Millsap, a Charlotte-based teacher and activist. “We are not exempt from these issues, and sometimes they become even more hush-hush, as the yoga community is supposed to be a safe space.”
Our incredible panelists are advocated for more inclusion in the yoga and wellness industries. They live that mission everyday by showing up, speaking on it, and doing something about it. Come learn from them and engage in what might sometimes be uncomfortable, but ultimately is our greatest possible path towards wholeness, authenticity, and a true 8 limbed practice of yoga.
Janice is offering workshops from the 6th through the 8th, focusing on assists, inversions, a foundational practice, and flexibility. You’ll also have the chance to experience a “Master” Practice with this absolutely fantastic teacher. Want to see more of what Janice does? We highly recommend a deep dive into her Instagram. Here are a few posts that got our minds percolating. The third posts gives all the details for Janice + Honor Yoga this week.

Do you agree? I actually got this phrase "control the mind to control your body" from Dr. Strange while watching an Avengers marathon with my fiancé 😂 but I consider it true, and the quote has stuck with me. It kind of goes both ways, at times when my mind feels turbulent, I calm it by ways of movement, connecting breath to movement and eventually mind to self. And at times when my body feels tired and fatigued, I energize it by ways of positive thought. Both ways require connecting in some way, and through connection we not only can heal, we grow stronger. :::: This flow was taken today (and if you watched my stories you'll see I needed to calm my mind). Stringing together transitions is always more challenging for me than practicing a single pose by itself, but I find that its through connection – flowing asana to asana – where growth happens. #connection #stronger #challengeyourself ————————————————— practice and connect with me: The Practice | Workshops Sept 6-8 @honoryoganorthbrunswick Friday 9/6: assist workshop Saturday 9/7: Foundations + Inversions Sunday 9/8: Master Class + Flexibility Click link in bio to register! :::: Or learn online @journey.into.yoga [recommended class for this video: “open heart open mind” video! www.vimeo.com/ondemand/janiceliou]

#motivationmonday #crushyourgoals I was going through some old photos and found this pose saved as one of my “goal poses” back in 2015. I can still remember the struggle to even attempt the pose, so I thought I’d make a modified practice for it! :::: The trickiest part for me back then was the balance and flexibility (outer hips, hamstrings, side waist, and arms); in order to help our bodies pattern and ease into the pose you might try the wall (and a strap if needed!). The wall not only helps us balance, it teaches us to use our legs – which is the key here to staying balanced. The legs need to kick out and up as the body leans in. If you have tight hamstrings, use a strap and/or bend your knees! :::: Give it a try, and let me know how it goes! Did you find this helpful? Are there any requests for things you’re working on? We then sink and rest into our journey through inner and group reflections. She, unfortunately, did not continue with her practice but reconnected with it when she retired from her corporate job in 2002 and has since become a serious yoga enthusiast. After her second retirement in 2017, she completed her 200-hour RYT certification, studying with Dina Crosta, Ellen Mosko, and Jamie Segal Hanley, with a focus on alignment based flow.
