Deep Thoughts and Big Truths

The name “NJ Yoga Collective” brings up a lot of questions about yoga. Why people do it, where to do it, how I personally got into it, what the benefits are, and lately “tell us more about VibeWell and why everyone needs to be there”?

You get it.

And yes, I’ve got lots of great answers – with books, podcasts, videos, students, teachers, texts, and fantastic NJYC articles to back them up – but I kind of want to step away from some of those truths and dig a little deeper today.

Why do I do yoga?

Because I deserve it. I deserve an hour (or 90 minutes on the best, least stressed days) of blissed-out Bridget time, dedicated solely to nourishing my mind, body, and spirit.

And in case you’re wondering, it’s not about perfect poses, reaching enlightenment, or even “letting go”.

It’s about me taking a look at ME without criticism, judgment, over-analysis, or fear. It’s about letting life bubble up, breathing through it, and recognizing my own power to come out the other side. It’s about clearing out the junk that tends to cloud up my head and heart so that I can be an infinitely better mother, wife, friend, daughter, sister, teacher, sleeper, leader, giver, and receiver.

I deserve yoga.

I deserve to hug my friends who come to class, laugh when I try to lift my leg and end up falling out of vasisthasana, think about going to bathroom when my teacher focuses on big backbends (that’s sort of embarrassing to admit, but if you’ve ever practiced next to me, you know my wheel looks a lot like a rectangle and after 15 years of practicing, I am still making the “meh” emoji face), wipe the sweat of my mat with a delightfully scented (non-GMO, organic, cruelty free) mat spray, and hop in my car to handle the rest of LIFE with a post-savasana smile on my face.

And now, onto VibeWell.

You deserve it. You deserve a sweet Sunday of YOU time.

This Festival is a MUST for anyone and everyone looking to step into what’s beyond: new ideas, new connections, new experiences, new people. It’s a full day of exploration with the most wonderful destination in the universe – your highest self.

You can ditch the to-dos, press pause on the emails, and say NO to the things that don’t bring you joy simply by saying YES to an 8 AM to 5 PM deep dive into our communal vibe, world-class instructors, phenomenal venues, thought-proving speakers, and the chance to play, celebrate, and enjoy with freedom and spontaneity.

So just say YES.

One more thing – go beyond the asana. Do some HEAL time with our energy workers; we’ve got LIMITED numerology, cupping, reiki, massage, chakra balancing, and acupuncture sessions available in our healing hOMe zone. Don’t wait on those…

nj yoga, when to start yogaBridget is a mom, a yoga teacher, a former lawyer, a writer, a moderately decent cook, a really good baker, a seeker of fantastic coffee and a firm believer in the power of positive thinking. Bridget became all those things around the same time and credits the whole “former lawyer” thing as the impetus for most of the fun stuff she gets to do on a daily basis now. That, and her family’s complete willingness to support her spontaneity with a smile. Bridget was born and raised in New Jersey and cannot imagine calling anywhere else “home.” She loves the entire NJ yoga community with lioness-like ferocity and cannot wait to show the world just what NJ yogis are up to – because it is crazy amazing stuff.
