Why You Need To Stop Hating Your Job and Start Loving Your Life | NJ Yoga

I used to wake up every morning dreading the day ahead – the long hours of commuting, being squashed like a sardine on subways and trains that always broke down and smelled like a basin of rat pee, a toxic work environment, a boss I couldn’t stand and mindless work that had no meaning to me…

Sound familiar?

The real problem was not that the subway smelled or the train broke down or that my boss was a B***, the problem was that I wasn’t living a purpose-driven life. I didn’t care about my work. I didn’t value myself in that environment – so no one else did either.

Problematically, I was in a downward spiral of not caring. I didn’t take the time to learn about myself. I didn’t think about what mattered or where i might flourish. I didn’t seek out like-minded souls.

So guess what? I was MISERABLE. I hated going to work.

Then one day I looked up at the sky scrapers and thought I AM GOING TO LEAVE NYC.

That’s it. That’s all I said. But then I did something incredibly freeing. I gave it up to the universe. All of it. The fears, the anxieties, the not caring, the complaints, all of it. I’d spent too much time living a stress-filled, struggle-focused life.

And I was DONE. I was ready to take control back – by essentially giving up the need for control completely.

I wish I could say it happened that moment, with a snap of my fingers, but of course, it didn’t. My process of extricating myself from a life that no longer served me took about 2 years. The process wasn’t simple, but it felt purposeful. I knew that every day brought me closer to that ONE day, when I would leave the city and not look back.

And I did it.

But did I mention that I was BROKE?! My bank account hit NEGATIVE ZERO more than once during this oh-so-interesting period of my life, which made my commitment to the universe and transformation seem that much more insane. How could I leave a job with no savings in place?

Faith.

A friend of mine posted a beautiful quote yesterday “Everything we do in life starts as a dream. When you add faith it becomes a belief. When you add determination, it becomes a goal. When you add action it becomes a part of your life & when you add time and patience, it ends with a dream come true”  – helloworldgoodnightuniverse.com

I spent two years focusing on my internal thoughts. I even explored why my boss bugged me so much – knowing that every obstacle is sent as a gift – and realized that I was afraid to stand up and shine. It wasn’t really my boss; it was me, wasting away in an assistant position because I didn’t value myself.

So I decided to start shining and I trusted the universe would have my back.

Today I teach yoga, surf, and plan vacations to South Africa. I drink amazing coffee with my boyfriend in our apartment by the ocean. I’ve made friends who believe in me. They are mirrors of the universe and in them, I finally see myself smiling back.

So if you are reading this thinking “YES, YES, YES I need to do those things too,” here is YOUR ACTION PLAN, straight from my heart to yours:

Take some time to write down how you want to FEEL in life

You need to get CLEAR on what you are growing towards and how you want that to make you FEEL. We can have everything in the world but if we do not FEEL fulfilled, it will not matter. Focus less on what sounds good and more on how you want to feel – for me it was free, my own boss, inspired, cozy environment, successful, worthy, of service, purposeful, motivated – all of it.

Break down the 4 areas of your life; wellness, relationship, personal & career

Draw a box and write down in each of them what is most important to you. How do you want to feel in those areas of your life, what do you want to see and do. Don’t hold back, don’t worry if it seems impossible. This is your drawing board and there are no limitations. Even if you do not believe it now, the more you get to know it, the less impossible it will start to feel. DREAM BIG! Why not, it’s your life and we are MAGICAL and powerful beings!

Find your key priority

Discover the area of your life that needs your attention first, to allow all your other dreams and goals to come to life. Look back through your 4 areas of life and what you wrote. Do you notice any consistent themes?

Get Accountable

Write your list of steps that you need to take to accomplish your key priority. Make sure these goals are something you can measure and be accountable for. If you want to cook more, don’t just say cook more, write how many times you will cook a week, write when you will buy a new cookbook etc. write 5 things to accomplish this month, 5 within 6 months. The number of goals you choose and time frames is not as important, you can set that as you please. I recommend 6 months as opposed to a year b/c it feels more real to me, but see what works best for you!

Remember, the most IMPORTANT piece when doing these exercises- the world is your oyster, the ideas and thoughts are LIMITLESS, no boundaries – even if it sounds impossible in your head at the moment- remember all mountains once looked impossible to climb when standing at the base gazing up to the peak shining in the distance. You just need to decide you want to climb!

it is not what other people want for you. It is what YOU want for you, NO LIMITATIONS.

I AM HERE FOR YOU!

I want to hear from you! I want to support you on this journey and watch you grow and crush all your goals! I want to see you happy! Reach out, ask questions, check in, let me know your goals and let’s start changing your life! We are never alone on our journeys and I am 100% here for you along your way! Happy Growing!
