Self Love

“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated in you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique.”

Unique and healing.

Life is a journey in search of balance. It’s energy in motion, flowing uninterrupted until someone or something causes it to break. Until we are left petrified and incapable of continuing on.

Human beings are blessed with the primordial instinct to protect; to understand pain and move away from it. But as we grow spiritually, emotionally, physically and mentally, we receive a greater gift even beyond that instinct: the ability, if we choose to hone it, to turn our experience of pain into a transformational life force.

Over time, we can take the cracks, cuts, bites and blemishes tattooed on our bodies and souls and redefine them as the foundation for love, compassion, wisdom and truth. We learn that the broken parts of us are important; that we need the lowest lows to fully enjoy the highest highs. We need to have the courage to embrace all of who we are.

It is through the movement of my body that I was able to fall in love with myself. My body and my practice became the artistic self love, yoga for love, yoga for everyone, nj yoga, nj yoga collectiveexpression I needed to accept who I was without condition, shed expectations about the future, and reclaim my soul.

With each breath my lungs offered, I understood how powerful, fierce and beautiful I really am. With each shape formed on my yoga mat, I realized how I could share the parts of me I tried desperately for so long to hide. By loving myself and my body, I could help others heal.

I practice through discomfort. I remained – and I still do – in each asana seeking the bliss that is always there, even when I cannot immediately see or feel it. I remember feeling frustrated and vulnerable in backbends; my muscles trembled under the possibility and power of the poses. My mind begged me to run away so many times, but the life force within me cried out louder, telling me I needed to stay.

Through my body, I began to see the light and dark within me. I couldn’t be just one thing; to find balance, I needed to accept the hard and the soft, the fire and the ice, the calm and the storm. That truth enabled me to drop my sword and end the fight against the shadows of my past. I surrendered. I embraced them. And in that moment, I started to fully live my life.

Yoga is powerful. When we allow the breath to move us, without condition, we bare our soul to the world. Our thoughts are no longer caught in our muscles and bones, tensing us against each asana. We become present without hiding anything about ourselves. Between the inhale and the exhale, we finally become who we are supposed to be: alive and vibrant. Poetry in motion, the highest form of living art.

Alive and vibrant : a poetry in motion, the highest form of living art.
