March came in like a lion in a big way this past weekend and definitely crushed a few of our goals for practicing this past weekend. Luckily there are lots of incredible opportunities to make up for it this coming week!

Check them out right here (thank you May Louie for discovering all the places we need to be!) AND please consider joining Bridget Riepl and April Puciata on IG from March 5th to the 9th for the #protectouroceans yoga challenge.

THE PROTECT OUR OCEANS IG CHALLENGE

The waters off New Jersey and New York are home to more than 300 species of fish, nearly 350 species of birds, 5 species of sea turtles, and many marine mammals, with over 20 species of whales and dolphins, 1 species of porpoise, and four species of seals.

Our oceans and their inhabitants are being seriously threatened right now by the federal government’s plans for offshore oil and gas exploration from Florida to Maine – with our Jersey Shore beaches right there in the middle.
The always awe-inspiring April came up with the idea for a call-to-action + a yoga challenge. It’s our way of asking ALL local yogis to come together, on and off the mat, to make an incredibly powerful difference in the world. We want you to post and pose along with Bridget and April for five days AND we are strongly encouraging everyone to BE THE VOICE for the ocean by submitting comments to Bureau of Ocean Energy Management opposing offshore oil drilling before March 9th! Follow Clean Ocean Action and head to their site – all the info you need to submit your comments is right there.
As for the IG challenge – check in with Bridget and April for the details on how to get involved and potentially win a prize from our sponsors, Camaroha Sutra and Be Free Creations!

Yoga Nidra

A FREE Series!

4:30 PM

Hot or Not Yoga, Manahawkin

Did you know that practicing Yoga Nidra for 20 minutes is equivalent to 3 hours of sleep? This practice is crucial for supporting balance in stressful and busy days and seasons of our lives. In this class, all that is needed is a welcoming mind and a yoga mat, and is done lying down in rest pose. This ancient tantric meditation systematically guides you through each layer of being called the koshas. This includes your mental, emotional, physical, energetic, and spiritual layers, helping you to relax and heal your whole being.

Nidra induces the relaxation response. You body knows exactly what to do to attain perfect health and equilibrium, but you need to go into relaxation response in order to turn on the healing switch! Effortless, compassionate, inexpensive.

By doing this, we can then provide a greater physical release especially in the hips, spine, and back that may not be found alone. This practice is not only for yogis, but anyone with a playful side looking to laugh and connect by playing. No experience necessary! No partner needed! We encourage that if you come with a friend that you are open to working with everyone. This is a community building practice!

NJ YogaMay Louie first took yoga in college to fulfill a Phys-Ed requirement and immediately fell in love. She unfortunately did not continue with her practice but reconnected with it when she retired from her corporate job in 2002 and has since become a serious yoga enthusiast. After her second retirement last year, she completed her 200 hour RYT certification, studying with Dina Crosta, Ellen Mosko and Jamie Segal Hanley, with a focus on alignment based flow.
